What is CrownTheMap?

CrownTheMap is a live, entertainment-focused European country competition where people cast one free active vote and follow the ranking on an interactive map.

Fifty European countries take part in the Founding Round. Selecting a country on the map or in the list is navigation only; it opens that country’s page and never casts a vote. While the round is open a visitor holds one active vote and can move it to another country at any time.

Voting needs no account, no email, and no payment. A random round-scoped browser token plus an anti-abuse challenge stands in for a login, which is honest but limited: the design cannot promise one verified human per vote, and the privacy note says so plainly.

Why it exists

Public online rankings are usually funded in a way that quietly bends them: the sponsor is also the winner, or the vote is a form with a paywall behind it. CrownTheMap is the same kind of light entertainment without that trade. Voting stays free, the ranking is computed from accepted votes alone, and the one thing money buys is a labeled placement beside a result rather than a change to it.

The rules, the map source and its checksums, and the commercial boundary are all published before they matter. After a round is finalized the result is immutable, and a material correction is appended in public as a dated erratum instead of quietly rewriting the ranking.

Who builds it

CrownTheMap is built and operated by FluxonLab, an independent product studio in Vienna, Austria. FluxonLab is named as the publisher in this site’s structured data and in the footer of every page.

The same person is responsible for the code, the sponsor moderation decisions, and the invoices. The registered provider, VAT position, contact address, and supervisory authority are published in the imprint.

How are rankings calculated?

Countries are ranked by accepted active votes. Equal totals share the same competition rank.

Only accepted votes enter public totals; rejected and test activity never counts. When two countries hold the same total they share a rank and the next competition rank skips accordingly. A country that has never received an accepted vote is shown as not activated rather than ranked last.

Totals are live while the round runs. After voting closes the same public pages show a clearly labeled provisional result during integrity review, and finalization publishes one dated, immutable snapshot with its roster, rules, map, and rank receipts. Can sponsors buy votes?

No. A Sponsored Crown is a paid visibility placement and cannot add votes, change rank, or alter map color.

A Sponsored Crown is one placement in the Crown card beside a country result. It publishes the sponsor name, one moderated line of up to 80 characters, the verified destination host as plain text, and a “Visit sponsor” link that leaves through a first-party redirect carrying the rel="sponsored" disclosure a search engine expects on a paid link. Outbound clicks are recorded against that Crown’s tenure and counted once per visitor per UTC day.

That is the whole list. There is no view, impression, or click-through-rate reporting anywhere in the product and no sponsor dashboard to log in to, and no search ranking, AI assistant visibility, backlink value, audience size, or traffic volume is promised, because nothing in this product controls any of them.

Any Crown in an open round can be bought at or above its current minimum price; buying is the sponsor’s own decision and changes nothing about votes or rank. Checkout is offered to verified EU business buyers only, a later takeover supersedes the previous holder without refund or compensation, and every Crown ends when the round ends.
